A break in Calgary

carnets

Here we are in Calgary. For us, it means a little rest without pedaling, a house where we are expected by the Sylvia and her family, niece of Arthur and Christiane de Quebec, parcels and letters that we expect, a little trip car to travel around and lots of other things ...

Mike, Ted and their daughters Sarah and Audrey are really cool. They offer us to sleep in the basement of their home on good mattresses. We avoid the cold and rain is nice. Sarah Mallorie and make a pair and have not left them.

Calgary itself is not so interesting. Even if it exceeds one million inhabitants, the city center is down to 2 or 3 blocks, we will quickly turn. Not even a nice way to photograph the buildings against the backdrop of mountains, as there are clouds.

We spend a pleasant evening with Jorge, Ester and their four children. They are from Argentina, and Sylvia invited us to present them. Sylvie and Ester had prepared a typical meal Argentina, empenadas. In some ways, it was for us a taste of South America, nearly a year before being. We gave it a few days later in Okotoks (suburb of Calgary) from Jorge and Esther for an asado well watered. Another evening we will not forget. Ester really want to return home in December 2011. Maybe we'll have the opportunity to meet again?

Calgary is also an Olympic city. It hosted the 1988 Winter Games. Children do not want to miss this city because they were waiting forward to welcome to visit the Olympic Park; nay visit, but rather make a pilgrimage to the bobsleigh track where they know every turn by heart. Not because they have practiced, but because they know on the fingertips the movie "Cool Runnings" or "Cool running" in English. It is their favorite movie, they used the VHS tape so they looked. This is the story of Jamaican sprinters motivated mount a bobsled team to participate in the Winter Olympics. It seems unlikely, it's funny and it's based on a true story. That is one of the few films that we took with us for the trip (not the VHS, eh!)

We had to spend half a day to backtrack, Y'avait always something to watch. And the icing on the cake, bob Driving awaited them at the top, at the outset. It was an opportunity to replay a piece of film. Well, if you have not seen it yet, take the time to watch it, you'll know what I mean.

We left a few days to the East in the Badlands, by car. What a car it goes fast! It is 10 km in less time than it takes to say, for cons, no time to see the scenery or take pictures at the right time ...

We were able to visit canyons, hidden in the plains, the town of Drumheller and the dinosaur museum (I leave Thomas is pleased to tell you), the Hoodoos, a variety of sculptures of the rock by water thousands of years we could see the sun.

Several people we met had recommended the rodeo and pow wow, to do in the region. Unfortunately we went too late in the season, there's more damage!

To complete this step, we took the bikes, direction ... Calgary to stop time for a party at Peter Solgne, Florette and Manel. St-Pierre is Egrève and is in high school French teacher in Calgary. We spent the evening chatting. And no question of the tent, their basement has allowed us to stay dry again.

This concludes our visit to Calgary, we take the road south from Alberta, in the direction of the United States. The forecast cloudy weather for the then very soon, that's all we need!
